How innocently did we believe? How innocently did we first conceive? No man determines or sets out to do the right thing wrongly as we first imagined it to be. Please let me shed some light upon a very sacred subject, our altars.
In the beginning God created many things but not one of them was an altar. "Genesis 1:1-31;2:1-25"
God created man for relationship purposes. God created woman for man for relationship purposes. There were no altars to give sacrifices on. There was no altar to give gifts upon. There was no need for an altar because they had a relationship. This is what we were created for, to have a relationship with God. We were not created to worship or cry upon manmade altars. This happened shortly after Adam & Eve were expelled from Eden-Paradise interpreted literally means the presence of God.
After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."Genesis 3:24"
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering."Genesis 4:3-4"
Christ Rejects Altar
1a After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2b And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here.If you wish, I will make three altars here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5c While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,* then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” 8 And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. "Matthew 17:1-8"
Final Altar Torn Down
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, the rocks were split. "Matthew 27:50-51"
This word is not meant to be a dissertation or exhaustive study on the subject of altars.Instead, this word is something which is more so birthed out of my experience of walking with the Lord Himself. Him talking to me, sharing His heart exposing mine. I was not really aware of my mindset concerning altars until our recent walk last month. We were about ten days into the month of June when it happened. Out of the abundance of my heart my mouth spoke. He was not aghast or shocked about how excited I was about spending time with Him. He's used to it. He's used to my rattling on and all my questions. He's accustomed to all the love and affection that travels back and forth between us but this one particular night in my enthusiasm I blurted out, Lord, I love the idea of being on a thirty day fast with you. I feel so great, so alive. I'd like to do this more often, maybe two or three times a year. That would great. We could do an annual event… my mouth was open, whole thoughts were coming off my tongue. In my mind all the pieces were coming together so fast, everything seemed to congeal when all of a sudden I looked over at Him. I was not alone in my thoughts. The words which hung in the air could not be erased nor could I take them back. Lord, after all fasting is good, right? Thirty day excursions with You are good, right? Doing something you love for the one you love can't be wrong, right?
He looked straight at me and said, Tom, doing something with the one you love is always better than doing something for the one you love.
Thus started my learning lesson.
He spoke to me and said, Tom, do you remember the mount of transfiguration situation? My intention was to expose their ability to have a relationship with the Father, My Father. When I exposed myself they saw Me conversing with Elijah and Moses. Then My Father your Father entered into the conversation. I was trying to share that communion with God is about having a relationship with Him. Peter wanted to build an altar to the experience, just as you have started to create fabricate in your mind. You are as guilty as Peter was about building an altar to a moment, to an event. If I had allowed Peter to do this… after I left people would have started worshipping the altar to the event but would have missed the idea concept of why the moment existed in the first place. The altar had it been built, would have become an idol.
Your moment here with Me right now cannot be duplicated nor can or will I allow you to create annual events to celebrate this moment. If I allowed this, are you really entering back into the relationship where we are now or are you creating an altar to come back to?
When a man walks away from a relationship even for a moment and they return he will find that neither he or they are in the same space and place of mind. During those moments away transition happened in mind soul and body. Things, words affected you and so when you try to return back to the exact moment in time where you left off you would be sadly disappointed to see time waits for no man.
The best you can do is try to recreate the moment and time of visitation. People become superstitious about their comfy chairs in the corner of the room. The base of a tree will become your favorite thinking spot if not careful. Oceans, beaches, sand dunes, mountains and so many other places have people created altars in. Yes, My son people even use coffee shops, cafe's and fitness centers to spend time with Me. I can and will be found anywhere for I am omniscient but My people do not believe this. My children do not comprehend My omniscient ability. I am called Jehovah Shammah which translates into I Am Ever Present. I Am in all places, at all times at once but My people refuse to believe this by creating altars, memorials and annuals to events and moments that are long gone. If you want to celebrate a moment cerebrate the one you have with Me at the moment you are having it. I don't hang around altars very long as they are built for and around dead things. I am the God of the Living. I can and will be found always among the living, the moving, the breathing not at altars built as a sacrifice to our relationship.
A living moving breathing relationship, this is the reality that Adam and Eve had. This is the reality My people should have but after the fall altars were created because people could not figure out how to come back into that fellowship. Anywhere and everywhere they could, altars were created. Do you see how man in their own attempts tried to mimic having My presence anywhere and everywhere through altars? There is and cannot be any substitute or imitation of My presence, ever. Fallen man was deceived into thinking if you will create an altar and keep coming back to it and in the same place in the same manner of heart and mind then you…if this method was true then Christ didn't need to come and destroy the temple, His sacrifice should have left it in tack. Jesus came back to shred all the mysteries and superstitions that man had created around our relationship. Layers upon layers of rules, layers and layers of conditions, altar upon altar has been built even after He came. Two thousand years later and people still build altars in the natural, in their mind and in their heart. Yes, my son even you as you have so innocently found out by the volition of your own thoughts and words.
Build Me an altar to this moment, I think not. Build an altar to this occasion, I think not. Create annual events so you can relive this moment, what a waste of My time and yours. Why settle for an annual event two or three times a year when we can walk and talk like this everyday of your life? Do not attempt to establish an altar in a place, to a moment, or a movement I am not and I will not be there. I will only be where I see the fresh blood of Christ.
Have you been covered in the blood? Have your sins been cleansed by the washing in the blood? Have you received atonement through the blood?
Then My child, why would I ask or how could I allow you to go backwards under the law, under the curse? Who the son sets free is free indeed.Do not use your liberty as a license to sin.But walk with Me,talk with Me all the day long. We do not, you do not need an altar to prove to Me where you are or discuss where you are going. I am with you always. Do not like Peter ask if you should make an altar to a moment or a meeting. Desire a relationship with Me. Cultivate each and every single solitary moment you have with Me and instead of you looking to go to another altar style meeting you will become a walking talking altar of sacrifice. I covet an ongoing relationship not your sacrifices. Why do you call Me Lord, Lord and do not do those things I ask or you see Me do? I have come that you may have a relationship with the Father through Me, do likewise. No altars needed. Show the world you are My children and follow My example, be imitators of God.
Father, I ask you to seal this word within the hearts and minds of all those who read this word. This is a word a conversation you spoke to me. I have done my best to translate your-my thoughts to the people.Like myself Father, even after thirty-one years of loving faithful fellowship with you I see how easily we can become or are snared by the thoughts, the rituals and intents of a religious system whether in the church, in our homes, in our minds or in our hearts. Father we have all sinned and fallen short of your glory but today we take back our freedom which was won to us through the one time sacrifice of Christ. His offering is my vehicle to get to you, be with you, walk with you, talk with you where ever I am and where ever I'll be. For where ever I am you are and have already been there.
Lord break down our altars. Smash down our altar mindsets and forgive us of our sins. Today we walk with you in the freedom of expression just as Adam and Eve did in paradise. In your presence is fullness of joy. We are free.
