Over the years I have met many teachers but have met few fathers. They exist... But remember, if you can't find one then determine you will become one.
There is no reason to be an orphan
Is there such a thing as a spiritual father or mother? Are they mentors? The answer would be yes on both accounts. Spiritual Parenting & Mentoring are about relationships which are combined with revelation and information that is imparted. We must not only be a hearer but the doer of the word.
When Father God comes looking for you, He already knows who you and where you are. His concern is, when He shows up will you be doing what you are supposed to be doing in that place? And will you forsake all and follow Him. God calls many to come walk with Him but not all want a spiritual leader or mentor. Many are satisfied running their own life and believe they have no need of mature spiritual influence or a mentor. This is a fallacy. Jesus himself, the Son of God had Holy Spirit to help him and He also obeyed His Father completely. Doing nothing of himself. John 12:49-50,7:18; John 5:19,30,14:31; 1 Peter 4:11 Father God through Jesus hand picked the original disciples, they did not pick Jesus. You cannot pick your spiritual parents or mentors. They will find you but you must respond.
1 kings 19: 19-21
19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, " Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, " Go back again, for what have I done to you?" 21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen's equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and became his servant.
We see in this text that the senior Prophet Elijah was sent to anoint Elisha to take his place. When he showed up the young boy was working. He had to be under authority to someone in order to have the responsibility of twelve teams of oxen. Elisha was already accountable and reliable. He was serving dutifully in a field that was owned by someone other than himself. Even if his family owned the business and property. It was theirs not his yet. He was only an heir to a promise. Elisha was faithful and obedient with another mans property. He could be trusted.
Elisha had to have discipline to accomplish what he was handling. He had strong personal discipline.
Elisha had to have convictions to see a job through even though it would be someone else's harvest. He did not covet another man's reward.
Elisha understood diligence and suffering, hardships and endurance through all kinds of weather. Circumstances and hardships did not deter from the assignment.
Elisha understood respect for elders and was able to submit to authority. A man under authority has authority.
Elisha understood order, protocol and etiquette. He had manners.
Elisha understood order and structure. Thus he had a level of authority because he walked and worked under authority. He gained wisdom and insights from his work ethics.
When the seasoned Prophet came by, the young man ran after him and said , "Please allow me to go back and do the right thing. I do not wish to leave in this manner. This is not because I'm looking to be blessed by those I have served, But rather allow me to bless them one more time before I come and follow you."
Elijah response was classic, Go back again, for what have I done to you?"
In other words, Go back do what you have to do I didn't teach you any of those things. What does going back to them have to do with me? The senior Prophet said this because his job description for Elisha was futuristic not having to do with the past. Elijah continued on in forward motion but allowed the young man to settle accounts as he saw fit or basically if Elisha was raised right he would leave the proper and correct way. Thus handling things the way he was taught.
God already knew Elisha's state of mind, life and servant ability. Even if the Lord told Elijah anything of the boy's past it is never mentioned. Elijah was told to equip the boy for his future, not pick up someone who was dysfunctional, needing healing from their abused past and who wanted to escape to the bright light of the stage to prove to others they are somebody. Stepping into the realm of the prophetic seeking approval would not be wisdom.
Elisha was busy about his masters business and God said, I can work with this and called him up and out for further training and responsibly. We are in no way suggesting that everyone who God calls into prophetic service must be totally whole because we are all flawed. If we are submitted to those presently who God has assigned over us we should get our healing by submitting to the process. In our serving there will be breaking and mending and healing and if we survive , restoration will be our reward. In this day and age I have seen far too many people step into the Apostolic Prophetic ministry prematurely and the results are often disastrous.
So what would qualify or disqualify someone today for the prophetic. Here are a couple of things:
Psalm 24:4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart.
Psalm 51:17 A broken heart and a contrite spirit. These O God, You will not despise.
1 Samuel 16:7 For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Proverbs 27:19 As in water face reflects face, So a man's heart reveals the man.
Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 15: 8... these people draw near with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men.
You may have heard the expression, The Lord is not worried about how we start the race but how we finish the race.
If I could use my scholarly wisdom and some sage advice I would have said it this way, The Lord is not worried how we start the race. He is concerned what happens in the middle so we can finish the race.
After every assignment I long to hear my Father say,
Well done good and faithful servant, you were faithful over a few things, I will will make you ruler over many things,Enter into the joy of your Lord. Matthew 25: 21
If someone like Elijah showed up today would he find you working? Would he find you faithful?
Could someone like myself come by and drop my mantle without saying much more than follow me to you? Would your heart know that God just requisitioned you into the ministry? Would you be ready to continue doing what you were doing previously trained to do and then add more responsibility to that?
Elisha served the older man faithfully for 17 years before the senior prophet went up in a chariot of fire. My concern is that in today's world this type of servant-hood would be confined to a story of days gone. But this is not so because I do understand finding true servant prophetic ministers would be even more difficult if it weren't for the guidance of Father God. God does look at the motivation and condition of a persons heart? You cannot hide from Him or when He comes by. The question is what will you be doing?
If your heart is already beating for discipleship and mentoring it would be a safe bet Father has birthed that in you. In the process of the internet, emails and such things I have reached out to you.
Do you recognize this as a call of Father God to move you up and out in a greater capacity of serving?
If you think you have heard from God concerning this, then contact me. We will do an initial consult followed by prayer. You will be contacted shortly there after to discuss what the Lord reveals.
