More About Tom
Which world do I live in?
A few years ago I saw Il mio viaggio in Italia or My Voyage to Italy. It is a personal documentary by acclaimed Italian-American director Martin Scorsese. He spoke of the dichotomy of being born in America but raised like he was in the old country, Italy.
His lifetime internal struggle was that he wasn't Italian enough to live in Italy but was too Italian to feel comfortably settled in America. He said he felt and still does many times, displaced.
This documentary bored everyone to tears except me. By the time the documentary was over I was alone with my blanket, empty pizza box and my tissues. Throughout the whole show I couldn't believe a man at this level of notoriety was being this open and transparent about his personal internal life's struggle. I related on so many levels.
Cinema became his way of coping and escaping, mine was through art, music and ministry. In ministry I could create an external image for Prophet Tom while leaving the internal guy alone, at least publicly.
I was not confused to the fact that I was Prophet Tom for public use but for those who knew me at home, I was Tom the Italian guy who was born in America. I often felt like my life was a paradox.
Have you ever felt like you just didn't fit into the box they gave you?
I have learned to speak up and out. Even if I'm alone I say what I need to say out loud because angels watch us and God hears us.
Instead of waiting for life's opportunities to open up for us sometimes we just need to say what we need to say, Now I did not say, I say everything I want to say but need to say. There is a big difference in the two. Discretion is the better part of valor.
I don't want to struggle between two worlds. I want to share with you who I am while I'm living in this one.
Enjoy the song.
It has been along time since I picked up a musical instrument and tried playing... Most of my friends including Lynn didn't know that I owned two previous guitars.
My first guitar was a Yamaha 12 string acoustic, the year was 1979. I gave it to somebody who really needed it.
My second guitar was an Antonio Hermosa classical spanish guitar. The year was 1991. I was taking private lessons and enjoying my new found interest until Father God sent me to the mission field. I took my guitar with me and once again I met a man who really needed it and I gave it away. Throughout all these years the desire has laid dormant in my heart until Father God rekindled a spark of interest in me in the summer of 2011.
Ever since then I have been looking at, listening to, inquiring about and basically learning as much as I could and still nothing until...
In August 2012 my friend Ralph was picking up a Ukelele case and said, Tom why don't you go look at guitars... I reluctantly went in.
We were just coming from another music store and my mind and ears were exhausted.
God is so cool, He knew this day we would be in the right place at the right time. To my utter amazement it was there hanging on the wall. When I picked it up I knew it was mine. When I heard the sound my heart skipped a beat.. I knew that I knew that I knew this guitar was mine.
